Summary

Description The Gladstone Pottery Museum The Gladstone Pottery Museum is a grade II* listed site in Stoke-on-Trent, with many protected features including the bottle kilns.
This is a photo of listed building number 1195854.

Techniques of mould making

Commercial mould making is a six part process.

  1. The modeller made a solid model out of clay the model
  2. The mouldrunner made a multipart cast of the model from Plaster of Paris.- the master block
  3. Plaster was poured into the master block to make a master case
  4. From this he made a plaster working block
  5. ..then plaster working cases
  6. ..from these hundreds of working moulds were made
These moulds were to produce pots or for jiggering or jolleying.
