Italiano: STORIA VENETA – 126: 1668 – FINALMENTE ANCHE L’EUROPA SI MUOVE. A CANDIA ARRIVANO I FRANCESI “Oltre a duemila salivano i Turchi che guarnivano le vicine trincee, ma sparso il rumor dell’attacco, correano da più lontani luoghi al soccorso, e dirizzate le artiglierie a quella parte, ferivano con ogni maniera d’armi i Francesi. Il Duca tra ferro e fuoco passeggiava intrepidamente, scorreva ogni luogo, animava i suoi e provvedeva a tutte bisogne; e veduto per soprassello venire alla loro volta un grosso corpo nemico che stava per tagliare la strada al ritorno, comandò il Duca franco la ritirata, e con pena gravissima ridusse i suoi sotto le mura in sicuro”.
