DescriptionDiplodoma laichartingella (34522325394).jpg |
Diplodoma laichartingella new for me! 12/06/17 Whilst I was photographing moths from the fridge, I just popped back outside with the next specimen and I noticed a small dark moth flittering above me. Luckily to my left I had my spare net (Which I always keep in my garden now) and with a quick flick the moth was netted. Potted up I didn't initially recognise it and it was a little damaged but this didn't see to affect it's flight too much. A flick through the books and I settled on an identification. Diplodoma laichartingella is a moth that is classified as a 'bagworm' whereby the caterpillar makes a house out of bits of plant and detritus and actually feeds on dead plant material and lichens. A great addition to the garden list and a moth i've never seen before...I kmew there was a reason why I kept that net in the garden :) |
