Plaat 13. HET VORSTELIJKE PATROON PARANG ROESAK. (Zie blz. 153 t/m 157.J dat nog niet ontloken blad vertoont een krul, die dan ook in de Javaansche versieringskunst meer en meer het symbool geworden is van jong leven f1). De beteekenis van den naam parang roesak heeft zich zoover gewijzigd, dat de Javaan in dit patroon thans meent te zien: de kris-of rots-(parang)-figuur, die beschadigd (roesak) is. Vandaar de navolgende legenden: Pandji, de vorst van Djënggala, zou in het huwelijk treden met Poetri sekar tadji, dochter van den vorst van Kediri, toen hij verliefd werd op Dèwi Angrèni, dochter van den patih van Djéngala, een van zijn dienaren. Pandjis vader, hierover ontstemd, gaf daarop aan zijn anderen zoon, Toemenggoeng Bradja Nata een kris, en gelastte hem daarmee Dèwi Angrèni te dooden.
