Use in article (WP:NFCC#7) The Concert for Bangladesh (album)
Purpose of use in article (WP:NFCC#8) A section discussing the album's artwork, which was created by the noted designer Tom Wilkes, whose concept for the art design was particularly empathetic with the cause that the 1971 concerts and this live album were in support of. This image is discussed in the text, with Wilkes' comments on the sense of hope and relief for the refugees that the picture was intended to convey. Aside from the section discussing the artwork, the issue of the album's packaging, particularly the 64-page full-colour booklet, is relevant to another notable point regarding the album – the protracted negotiations between Harrison/Apple Records and Capitol regarding costs for distributing a weighty 3-LP box set.
Not replaceable with
free media because
(WP:NFCC#1)
The image is taken from album artwork created by one of the most celebrated cover-art designers of the era, so it cannot be replaced by any free illustration that might yet be created.
Not replaceable with
textual coverage because
(WP:NFCC#1)
The concert was a milestone in the history of rock and popular music, as the first benefit concert of its kind and the model for all subsequent multi-artist benefits. It was an emotional occasion and, as text in the artwork section demonstrates, Wilkes's album design was highly emotive and designed to have a visual impact that reflected the emotion in the album's music. This impact cannot be fully achieved through text alone.
Minimal use (WP:NFCC#3) This Madison Square Garden cheque and guitar case image is one of over 100 pictures appearing in the original album packaging. Yet, aside from the iconic album cover image, and its 2005 replacement, it is the only image file used in the article; it is necessary for the topic under discussion, but it is the only picture from the album booklet used out of many other possible and equally relevant pictures. The image is needed in its entirety to convey the message behind Wilkes' picture. It is specific to the Concert for Bangladesh and the immediate aftermath to the August 1971 shows, meaning that its use on wikipedia is limited to a very narrow subject matter.
Respect for
commercial opportunities
(WP:NFCC#2)
The image is being used in a article purely for educational purposes and its use will not negatively affect the commercial interests of its owner or copyright holder: the image is of sufficiently high resolution to show that there's a bank cheque in the top portion of the picture (just about), but not high enough to show the text legibly and therefore permit even reasonable-quality copies of the picture.
