English: Three jars containing parts of the giant squid, Architeuthis dux Steenstrup 1857, holotype specimen from the collections of the Zoological Museum in Copenhagen. The squid was collected in the Atlantic Ocean near the Bahamas, and was preserved in parts by merchant sailor Hygom for Japetus Steenstrup in 1855, leading to the first formal scientific description of the giant squid in 1857.
