Description1979 AMC Spirit AMX Nurburgring winner at 2017 AMO meet 1of5.jpg
English: 1979 AMC Spirit AMX. This is one of two cars built by Team Highball and sponsored by the B.F. Goodrich tire company in the annual FIA Group One 24-hour race (for mildly modified production cars) held at Germany's legendary Nürburgring track in 1979. This was the first American car to enter and win the Nürburgring 24-hour race. Driven by Lyn St James, Gary Witzenburg, and Jim Downing. This car was upgraded to IMSA-GT specifications in 1981 for the Kelly American Challenge Series and was driven by Amos Johnson. This car also competed in the Daytona 24-hours race in 18981-82 using a dry sump 360 AMC engine from the Penske NASCAR race program.
Photographs were taken during the 2017 American Motors Owners (AMO) convention that was held in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. This show was organized by the Potomac Ramblers Automobile Club.
