Summary

Description

Ford, having seen the success Carroll Shelby had made of the Cobra race car, knew he was the man to make the Mustang a respected race machine. Mustang GT Fastbacks were delivered to Shelby, the back seat was removed, turning the Mustang into a 2 seater 'sports car' (to be able to race under the SCCA rules), engine power was increased by 35hp, suspension improved and fibreglass hood. All 1965 Shelby GT350s were Wimbledon White with Guardsman Blue Stripes. 562 1965 Shelby GT350s were built, 34 350R race-spec cars were built specifically for competition use, these cars were the B-Production champion for three straight years
