hCard Microformat

[edit]

I would like us to add the hCard microformat (see also Wikipedia:WikiProject_Microformats) to these template. I can advise on the required mark-up, but I'm not familiar with template code editing. Can anyone help, please? Andy Mabbett 11:46, 22 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Now implemented on many biography infoboxes; see Category:Templates generating hCards. Andy Mabbett | Talk to Andy Mabbett 11:08, 15 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

British nationalities

[edit]

I've noticed that for a whole range of British people their country of origin is listed as England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland. This is surely incorrect as we should be listing which state the person is from, not the region. I haven't seen people listed as being from Brittany, or Catalonia, or Bavaria, so why is the UK being discriminated against in this way? For wikipedia to decide that in the case of the UK, its sub-parts are more important than the whole is a political point of view that has been allowed to creep into wikipedia and we should move to correct it. I'm not sure where the best place to discuss this issue is, so if someone wants to direct me elsewhere I will take my concerns there. Otherwise we should decide a policy here. The Enlightened 23:03, 11 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are considered constituent countries of the UK, whereas Brittany, Catalonia and Bavaria are only regions within their respective countries. You could argue that this is a semantic difference, but the fact that the UK gives it's divisions the status of "countries" lends some legitimacy to listing "Scottish" or "Welsh" as a nationality. While you're correct that the tendency to list people from the UK as Scottish, English, Welsh or Northern Irish, rather than simply British does have political implications, this is a contentious issue in both directions, so so listing these people as British would be equally political. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.160.226.98 (talk) 02:10, 16 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Parameters for dead people

[edit]

The templates {{Infobox person}} and {{Infobox actor}} now have parameters for resting_place and resting_place_coordinates (see Marylin Monroe for an example using both). I think we should add them (and the "death place" field) to other biography-infobox templates. Andy Mabbett | Talk to Andy Mabbett 22:29, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Criminal

[edit]

For some reason, this Template:Infobox is listed in section B rather than section C.71.193.193.109 02:48, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Business person or leader or executive

[edit]

I may be missing something but I cannot see a template for what must be a fairly large and populated group, while I can see many templates for models, playmates, etc.? I guess Celebrity will do for now. SeoR (talk) 19:15, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I use {{Infobox Person}} -- it has all the params that you will need. – ukexpat (talk) 20:47, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks - that's exactly what I did after looking, good to have it confirmed. Indeed it has enough paramaters to cover most types, and perhaps what is really needed is a smaller range of templates. SeoR (talk) 17:01, 9 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proposal for a New "People infobox template" for Traditional Chinese Persons

[edit]

I did an extensive search of the templates for poeple in the infobox category and I have not found anything appropriate for individuals from traditional China. Because of different cultural backgrounds and what is deemed important in Sinological studies, there are several important items that should be included in the infobox that do not exist.

For example, if you have eaten Dongpo Pork at a Chinese restaurant, it is named after a Song Dynast Official who invented the dish. His name was Sushi, but he is known by Su Dongpo (Su of the Eastern Hill) where he lived during a period of exile. Dongpo is his pseudonym. His ancestral home was in Sichuan, but almost all of his adult life was was spent at government posts in various places in China. Today, he is known for his poetry, painting and calligraphy. Please note that his occupation was government official or minister - he NEVER sold his poetry.

I am proposing the following to be included as a template. I did leave out most the the information regarding friends and relatives. This information is not usually important for a quick overview of the individual. However, if someone wishes to leave it in, I have no objection. I also checked the Chinese version of Wikipedia and adapted some of their fields.

PROPOSED TEMPLATE FOLLOWS

Parameters

[edit]

Do not use all these parameters for any one person. The list is long to cover a wide range of people. Only use those parameters that convey essential or notable information about the subject. Any parameters left blank or omitted will not be displayed. If a data field has more than one parameter name which can be used, the preferred name is listed first in bold print.

Parameter Explanation
name Common name of person (defaults to article name if left blank; provide birth_name (below) if different from name).
image Image name: abc.jpg, xpz.png, 123.gif, etc. If an image is desired but not available, one may add "yes" to the "needs-photo" section of the Template:WPBiography on the talkpage. Do not use Image:Replace this image male.svg, Image:Replace this image female.svg or other placeholder images; the proposal to use such placeholders has been rejected by the community.
image_size
(imagesize)
Size to display image: 200px (set width), or 200x300px (max width & max height). This defaults to 225px if empty or omitted.

caption Caption for image, if needed. Try to include date of photo and the photographer.

death_date Date of death: {{death date and age|1995|10|9|1930|1|15}} (if birth date is known) or {{death date|1995|10|9}} (if birth date unknown). See Template:Death date for details.
